Kevin Youkilis Cracks Joke About Donald Trump-Bobby Valentine Report

Kevin Youkilis clearly couldn’t help himself.

WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford reported Thursday night, citing multiple sources, that former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine was on a short list of candidates whom president-elect Donald Trump was considering for U.S. Ambassador to Japan.

Youkilis caught wind of this news and reacted Friday like a guy who was shipped away from the Red Sox during Valentine’s disastrous one-year stint with Boston in 2012.

Youkilis and Valentine clashed early in the skipper’s forgettable tenure with the Red Sox, as Bobby V suggested in April 2012 that Youk wasn’t as physically or emotionally into the game as he had been in the past. Youkilis, a three-time All-Star who was underperforming at the time, was traded to the Chicago White Sox in June, while Valentine was fired after the season.

Interestingly, both players have ties to Japan, with Valentine previously managing the Chiba Lottes Marines and Youkilis playing for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2014. Japan might not be big enough for both of them, though, if Valentine lands this new gig under Trump.
