Matt Holliday’s Yankees Contract Allows Him To Block Trade To One Team
Matt Holliday must have really hated the Bay Area.
Holliday, who just signed a one-year, $13 million deal with the New York Yankees, reportedly has a no-trade clause in his new contract that allows him to block a trade to one Major League Baseball team: the Oakland Athletics.
This news, which was passed along by Chris Cotillo of SB Nation and MLB Daily Dish, is interesting — kind of funny, too — both because the no-trade clause is limited to a single team and because Holliday played 93 games for the A’s in 2009.
Maybe the short stint in Oakland didn’t sit well with Holliday. Maybe he doesn’t like Billy Beane. Maybe he has a rivalry with someone on the current A’s roster. Who knows?
What we do know is that Holliday wants nothing to do with one of his three former organizations, and the Yankees were willing to enable his apparent ill will in order to land the veteran slugger.
