The MLB Winter Meetings kicked off Monday in Maryland, and it appears the Washington Nationals are among the busiest teams.
The Nationals have been linked to Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale for a while, and FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal provided an update Monday night on the trade talks between these teams, which appears to be getting serious.
The interesting part of this tweet is the absence of Trea Turner. The 23-year-old center fielder is a star in the making for the Nationals after finishing second in the 2016 National League Rookie of the Year voting.
Turner arguably is Washington’s top trade asset, and not including him in any deal for Sale would be a huge win for the Nats’ front office.
Sale went 17-10 with a 3.34 ERA and 233 strikeouts for the White Sox this past season.
Washington also has been linked to Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen, and the Nationals reportedly believe they have the assets to acquire both him and Sale in trades.
