6:35 p.m.:Â The Chicago White Sox are loading up on prospects.
The club announced Wednesday that they’ve traded center fielder Adam Eaton to the Washington Nationals for right-handed pitching prospects Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Dunning.
Giolito is the top-ranked pitching prospect in baseball (No. 3 overall), according to MLB.com.
The White Sox added the No. 1 prospect overall (Yoan Moncada) on Tuesday in a trade involving left-handed ace Chris Sale.
4 p.m.:Â The Red Sox have a pitching surplus and those in need of an arm or two reportedly are reaching out to Boston.
The Boston Globe reported the Red Sox already are getting calls on Eduardo Rodriguez, Drew Pomeranz and Clay Buchholz. The report notes Boston isn’t willing to trade Rodriguez.
Additionally, the Globe reports most opposing teams’ interest centers around Pomeranz.
2:05 p.m.:Â The Washington Nationals are leaving no stone unturned seemingly when it comes to finding someone, anyone to add to their team.
1:55 p.m.:Â The Chicago Cubs likely will watch Aroldis Chapman walk in free agency, but they’ve found a nice replacement in Kansas City reliever Wade Davis, as the Cubs send Jorge Soler to the Royals.
11:15 a.m.:Â Ian Desmond had a really nice 2016 season with the Texas Rangers, and now it appears he’s headed to the Mile High City.
9:30 a.m.:Â It’s been a rough few days for Edwin Encarnacion.
It’s probably worth mentioning the Toronto Blue Jays reportedly offered Encarnacion a four-year, $80 million contract extension during the season.
7:50 a.m.:Â The Washington Nationals reportedly made a huge offer for Chris Sale, but ultimately, the Chicago White Sox preferred what the Boston Red Sox offered.
7:30 a.m.: Tuesday was a wild day at the MLB winter meetings, but could there be more fireworks on the way Wednesday?
Day 2 of the winter meetings was a busy one, especially for Dave Dombrowski and the Boston Red Sox. The Sox stole the winter meetings show with a blockbuster trade, acquiring Chris Sale from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for four prospects. Boston also bolstered its bullpen by trading for Milwaukee’s Tyler Thornburg and also signing free-agent first baseman Mitch Moreland.
Now, you have to wonder whether the dominos start to fall. The Washington Nationals surely will garner plenty of attention, as it’s been a rough few days for the Nats in their own backyard. Washington lost reliever Mark Melancon to the San Francisco Giants on Monday before losing out to the Red Sox on the Sale sweepstakes Tuesday. Washington has been tied to plenty of trade rumors, and maybe they finally land a piece like Andrew McCutchen or Jose Quintana on the meetings’ final day.
That’s far from the only hot stove question left to answer, too. Shutdown closers Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen remain available, as does free-agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion.
