FOXBORO, Mass. — Darius Kilgo’s tenure with the New England Patriots was short-lived.

The Patriots waived the defensive tackle Thursday. They claimed him off waivers from the Denver Broncos last Tuesday when the Patriots were unsure if Alan Branch would serve a four-game suspension. Branch wound up winning his appeal.

Kilgo didn’t appear in a game with the Patriots. The Patriots have Branch, Malcom Brown, Vincent Valentine and Woodrow Hamilton at defensive tackle.

The Patriots likely are opening up a spot on their roster for a wide receiver after Danny Amendola suffered a high ankle sprain Sunday. They worked out wideouts Jared Abbrederis, Kevin Smith and Griff Whalen on Thursday. The Patriots could sign one of those free agents or bring Devin Lucien or DeAndrew White off the practice squad.

The Patriots also worked out defensive back Dezman Southward and linebacker Taiwan Jones on Thursday.
