Why Patriots’ Recent History Vs. Rookie QBs Is Bad News For Jared Goff

The New England Patriots will face a rookie quarterback Sunday afternoon for the 11th time in the last five seasons. And history will not be on Jared Goff’s side.

Just two of the last 10 rookies to start games against the Patriots earned victories, and that group as a whole completed 54.6 percent of its passes while tossing nine touchdowns with nine interceptions. (Five of those touchdowns came in two games back in 2012. The quarterbacks in those games? Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson.)

For a glimpse of what Goff might be in for when his Los Angeles Rams visit Gillette Stadium this weekend, here’s a look back at New England’s last 10 games against rookie quarterbacks:

Cody Kessler, Cleveland Browns (Week 5, 2016)
Stats: 5 of 8, 62 yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions (knocked out of the game in the first quarter with rib and chest injuries)
Result: Patriots win 33-13
