FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots tried out three CFL players Wednesday at Gillette Stadium.

The Patriots worked out running back Shakir Bell, defensive tackle Michael Brooks and linebacker Deon Lacey.

Bell, an Indiana State product, had 68 carries for 425 yards with one touchdown in four games this season with the Edmonton Eskimoes. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound running back also had eight catches for 48 yards with two touchdowns.

Brooks, an East Carolina product, had 18 tackles and one sack with the BC Lions. The 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive tackle previously spent time with the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks.

Lacey, who went to West Alabama with Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler, previously spent time with the Dallas Cowboys. He spent three seasons with the Edmonton Eskimoes, accumulating 114 tackles and seven sacks with three interceptions and four forced fumbles.

CFL players whose contracts had expired could begin signing with NFL teams Feb. 9, 2016. The NFL’s 2016-17 important dates notice doesn’t list when CFL players can sign with NFL teams this winter.
