Jeff Fisher caused more than a few heads to turn and eyes to roll Wednesday when he offered his take on the New England Patriots’ trio of running backs.
After mentioning Patriots rushing leader LeGarrette Blount, the Los Angeles Rams coach threw out the names “Brandon” and “Danny.” New England’s other two primary running backs are James White and Dion Lewis.
Asked Thursday for clarification, a Rams representative told ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio that Fisher was referring to Danny Amendola, a wide receiver who played one season under the coach in St. Louis, and Brandon Bolden, who technically is a running back but has played just 13 offensive snaps all season and hasn’t carried the ball or caught a pass since Week 4.
“Coach Fisher was referring to Danny Amendola, who played for the Rams,” the team spokesman said. “He was talking about some of the threats they have.”
As for the Bolden shout-out, the spokesman said Fisher’s point was “not so much about production, but the different ways they line him up.”
The spokesman also said Fisher had a Patriots flip card (which typically includes a depth chart) in front of him during Wednesday’s conference call, making it all the more bizarre that he responded to a question about running backs by naming a wideout and a special-teamer.
