Michael Floyd’s DUI arrest brought about the end of his Arizona Cardinals tenure, and it could end up costing the wide receiver a few game checks next season.
Floyd “is expected to face a multi-game suspension from the NFL” in 2017, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“The discipline likely will center on the blood test Floyd took the morning he was arrested for the DUI (Monday), after he refused to take a breathalyzer,” Schefter wrote Sunday morning. “Results of that blood test are expected back within the next month, and they will determine the receiver’s level of intoxication and quite possibly the punishment he will face.”
The Cardinals released Floyd on Wednesday, and the New England Patriots claimed him off waivers the following day. The 27-year-old wideout traveled with the Patriots to Denver, but he will not play Sunday against the Broncos, sources told Schefter.
Floyd’s numbers are down this season as he has struggled with drops and inconsistent play. The 2012 first-round draft pick caught just 33 passes for 446 yards in 13 games with Arizona and is on pace for career lows in both categories.
Floyd is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
