Deflategate 2.0 already is a thing of the past.
Shortly after the New York Giants filed a complaint with the league after finding two Pittsburgh Steelers footballs to be underinflated, the league apparently followed its protocols and found no wrongdoing on the part of the Steelers.
In a press conference at a league meeting on Wednesday, Goodell said that he was “comfortable” with how the situation was handled, comfortable enough that he believed no further investigations would be necessary.
“We went back to look to make sure the protocols were followed properly. They were,” Goodell said. “The Giants had asked us about it during the game. We went back, we checked that. They were properly followed. All of the league protocols being properly followed, there’s no further follow up on that. The teams didn’t follow up, we didn’t follow up any further because we were comfortable that the protocols were followed.”
Also in his press conference, Goodell noted that the Giants used a different device than the one used by the game officials to measure the air pressure in the footballs, which added to his comfortability that everything was handled properly.
