One of the best female tennis players in the world faces a long road to recovery after a terrifying incident at her home.

Czech tennis star Petra Kvitova was injured Tuesday in a home invasion. She attempted to defend herself and was injured while doing so, reportedly being stabbed in her left hand.

She released the following statement Tuesday on her social media accounts:

An injury to the left hand is especially worrisome for Kvitova, who is left-handed and primarily hits the ball with her left hand. Of course, that’s not really a pressing matter at this time, as the two-time Wimbledon champion herself admitted she’s “fortunate to be alive” after the incident.

According to police (via the Guardian), the attacker is on the loose and a manhunt is underway to find him.
