FOXBORO, Mass — The man at the center of the first Deflategate has a few thoughts on the latest case of deflated footballs.
A day after Deflategate 2 between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants was reported, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who served a four-game suspension at the beginning of the 2016 season due to his alleged involvement in the first Deflategate, was asked about the latest controversy by Westwood One’s Jim Gray before his “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
“Well, Jim, it’s really inconsequential to me,” he said during his weekly interview. “I had put my situation behind me a long time ago, and they’ll decide whatever they want to do, and that’s their prerogative as a league. But for me, I have plenty of things that I have moved on from and I got to worry about. My job is football and playing well, and that’s my focus, especially just before one of the biggest games of our season.”
Deflategate 2.0 came to light when FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported the Giants found that two footballs used by the Steelers in the teams’ Week 13 matchup were underinflated. And while the NFL made it seem like a non-issue in a statement a few hours later, a report from ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio on Monday said the two footballs were 11.4 and 11.8 PSI, which is below the now-infamous 12.5 PSI legal limit.
Gray also asked Brady if he had any advice for a potential NFL investigation into the matter, but the Pats QB deferred to the fans.
“I’ll leave that to all the Patriots fans,” he said. “I’m sure they all have pretty strong opinions, too.”
