Week 16 Waiver Wire: Best Pickups For Fantasy Football Playoffs
It’s the second-to-last week of the NFL season, and hopefully your team is in the fantasy football playoffs.
With the championship game just a week away (or already here), you might be looking to add some additional depth to your lineup in order to get to the title game.
Here are the best waiver-wire pickups at every position.
Quarterback: Tom Savage, Houston Texans
After an extremely disappointing season, the Texans finally decided to bench Brock Osweiler during Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Savage saw his first action of the season and guided Houston to a 21-20 comeback victory, in which he completed 23 of 36 pass attempts for 260 yards. Houston will host the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday in a game that it needs to win in order to keep its playoff aspirations alive. With an underwhelming rushing attack and an offense desperate for a spark, the Texans might rely on Savage to win the game through the air.
Other quarterbacks to pursue: Matt Moore (MIA), Robert Griffin III (CLE)
Running Back: Ty Montgomery, Green Bay Packers
The running back position has been a giant question mark for the Packers all season. Injuries to both Eddie Lacy and James Starks have caused for constant mixing and matching as the team attempted to find a consistent starter. Well, they may have found one in Ty Montgomery. Montgomery has been featured as both a receiver and running back for Green Bay all season, but in Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, he was primarily featured in the backfield. This resulted in him rushing for 162 yards and two touchdowns, good for almost 30 fantasy points. Montgomery would be a great add to bolster your backfield for the playoffs.

Wide Receiver: Sterling Shepard, New York Giants
The Giants have one of the best receiving corps in the league, and that has been in large part due to the production of rookie receiver Sterling Shepard. In last Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, he hauled in four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown, his seventh score of the season. When the Giants head to Philadelphia to play the Eagles on Thursday night, it is safe to assume that much of the defense’s focus will be shifted towards Odell Beckham Jr., which could result in a fair share of targets for Shepard.
Other wide receivers to pursue: Robbie Anderson (NYJ), Adam Humphries (TB), Phillip Dorsett (IND)
Tight End: Dion Sims, Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins have been one of the biggest surprises of the NFL season. They currently are 9-5 and hold the sixth seed in the AFC standings. While losing starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill to injury did not help their playoff cause, backup Matt Moore had an impressive performance on Thursday night against the New York Jets. He throw for four touchdowns, two of which went to Sims. Sims has become a key figure in Miami’s offensive attack as of late, scoring four touchdowns in his last four games. The tight end position as been shaky for fantasy owners all season, so it wouldn’t hurt to take a look at Sims.
