The world can be a cruel, dangerous place. But as long as puppies are safe, everything will be just fine.
That’s why it’s a good thing 100 puppies are alive and accounted for after the box van that was transporting them to various pet stores crashed and overturned in Avoca, N.Y., the New York State Police said in a press release.
But not every puppy left the incident unscathed. All 100 dogs were transported to the Finger Lakes Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or Bath Veterinary Hospital in Bath, N.Y., where five were treated for injuries, two of which were admitted to hospital for further treatment, WCVB-TV reports.
“One of them had a fractured jaw,” Dr. Becky Mortenson of Bath Veterinary Hospital said, via WCVB-TV. “He had surgery this morning to have that stabilized and he also has what appears to be a fractured sinus cavity and the other one had a fractured leg.”
Despite all they went through, the puppies’ spirits were high.
The two permanently hospitalized puppies will remain in the care of the Bath Veterinary Hospital, and another two are being treated by the FLSPCA. The remaining 96Â were released back to company responsible for their transportation.
“There’s a transport vehicle that transports animals for breeders that was taking them to local pet stores,” Vicki Mosgrove, executive director of the FLSPCA, told WCVB-TV. “Because there aren’t any cruelty investigation charges or anything, they’ll just be returned to the transport company owners to go on to their intended location at the pet stores.”
Officials reportedly aren’t sure where the dogs came from, however, all are certified by USDA standards.
