Beanpot 2017 Live: Harvard Tops Northeastern 4-3 In First Semifinal

Harvard 4, NU 3: The first semifinal of the 2017 Beanpot was close throughout, but the No. 4 Harvard Crimson held off a late Northeastern rally to win 4-3.

Harvard and Northeastern played to a scoreless draw after 20 minutes before both sides found the back of the net in the second period. The No. 4 Crimson scored three straight goals to open the third period, but the Huskies wouldn’t go away, scoring twice in the final 6:29 to make Harvard sweat.

With the win, Harvard improved to 16-5-2 and clinched its first trip to the Beanpot final since 2008. Northeastern dropped to 11-12-5 with the loss.

Third period, 16;48, Harvard 1, NU 1: Zach Aston-Reese launched a wrist shot at Merrick Madsen, but he gloved it. The Huskies are controlling play early in the final period.

End second period, Harvard 1, NU 1: Harvard controlled the play for most of the second period, but the Huskies tied it up with the late power play goal from Adam Gaudette. There are 20 minutes left to decide the first 2017 Beanpot semifinal.

Garret Cockerill sent a shot from the point off the post. Zach Aston-Reese then got a stick on the rebound, sliding it to Adam Gaudette, who put home the shot to tie the game.

The Huskies have a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal after one period. Both teams had one power-play opportunity in the opening 20 minutes.
