There were laughs, tears and some puzzled looks but that’s par for the course for Super Bowl commercials. Which ones were the best? You be the judge.
9:41 p.m.: Remeber Spuds Mackenzie? Well, he’s back in the new Bud Light ad, sort of.
9:37 p.m.: When an aspiring chef runs into a common problem (Jason Statham blowing up his restaurant), Wix is there to help.
9:31 p.m.: T-Mobile’s spoof of “50 Shades of Grey” sees Kristen Schaal have a little too much fun with overages.
8:56 p.m.: Another shot at President Donald Trump, but this one wasn’t all that subtle. It’s A 10 Hair Care is here to save America from “four years of bad hair.”
8:55 p.m.: Kia and Melissa McCarthy teamed up to try and save the world in one of the best spots so far.
8:45 p.m.: Budweiser’s much talked about “Born The Hard Way” hit the air.
8:40 p.m.: Snickers commercials normally are fan favorites during the Super Bowl, and this year their 30-second spot was live and starred Adam Driver. It was a little odd, to say the least.
8:39 p.m.: Audi’s Super Bowl commercial was an intense ad that focused on progress and emphasized equal pay for equal work. An important message on the biggest platform. Well done, Audi.
8:32 p.m.: What a halftime show from Lady Gaga.
The NFL’s new “Super Bowl Baby Legends” commercial was a great way to get us ready for the second half kickoff.
8:15 p.m.: Tax season is upon us and even Humpty Dumpty has to file in this Turbo Tax ad.
8:06 p.m.: The first half was fairly lopsided as the Atlanta Falcons lead the New England Patriots 21-3 at the break. But, Yellow Tail wine got the commercials back on track with their spot that included a kangaroo DJ’ing a rooftop party. “Wanna pet my roo?” Need we say more?
7:31 p.m.: Febreeze hit a home run with their “Halftime Bathroom Break” ad. Deep down all of us have this in common.
7:18 p.m.: Christopher Walken giving his rendition of NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” alongside former member Justin Timberlake? Well done, Bai.
7:14 p.m.: It’s a bummer that Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski isn’t suiting up for Super Bowl LI, but he made a Super Bowl appearance anyways. Gronk showed his moves alongside pop star Justin Beiber and Terrell Owens in this hilarious T-Mobile ad.
7:09 p.m.: The game hasn’t had a lot of fireworks, but how about the trailer for the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie?
7:01 p.m.: GoDaddy’s entry came in early and it’s certainly not as entertaining as their previous endeavors.
6:55 p.m.: Skittles gave us our first “what the heck was that” moment of Super Bowl LI with this commercial that incorporates a beaver at the end. We guess all creatures enjoy the taste of the rainbow.
6:47 p.m.: It’s early but we are off to a good start after the first break as Avocados From Mexico came in with a shot at Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown’s Facebook Live fiasco.
6:12 p.m.: It’s almost time for Super Bowl LI.
