The Boston Red Sox lost 6-5 to the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of a four-game series Friday at Comerica Park.

Red Sox pitcher Ben Taylor made his major league debut in the game, and he actually was in line for the win before the Tigers rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning. Taylor entered in the bottom of the seventh and pitched one-third of an inning, striking out the only batter he faced — Ian Kinsler — on four pitches.
