Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Andrade Round-By-Round Commentary
Pre-Fight
The fighters are in the octagon. It’s time for the strawweight championship bout.

And the staredown was epic.

First Round
Andrade landed some big blows, and she got the champ down with a takedown. The champion maneuvered her way out of too much danger, and she got in some significant strikes later in the round. Andrade grabbed Jedrzejczyk by the leg and went for another takedown, but this one wasn’t very effective. Despite the takedowns, Jedrzejczyk got in some big strikes, too.

Second Round
Jedrzejczyk continued to work on the challenger’s legs. The champion was in control, both on offense and defense. Jedrzejczyk got in a couple of huge right hands with around 1:30 left in the round. Andrade grabbed the champ by the leg, but Jedrzejczyk got out of harm’s way. Jedrzejczyk landed some more huge jabs and a kick to the face in the final seconds.

Third Round
Jedrzejczyk’s leg kicks continued to add up, and she displayed incredible accuracy. Andrade got in a flurry of strikes with just over two minutes remaining in the round. But for the most part, the champ continued to land shots at will. Andrade was chasing Jedrzejczyk late in the round, but there was a noticeable lump on Jedrzejczyk’s forehead.

Fourth Round
The strikes continued to pile up, and you could see the impact on Andrade. Despite more significant strikes, Andrade got the champion against the octagon for a good stretch of time during the middle of the round. It gave the challenger a bit of a break from getting hit. She tried to go for a takedown, but Jedrzejczyk displayed great defense, again. Andrade’s legs looked in rough shape from all the leg kicks and the champ also got in some more jabs toward the end of the round, too. Total domination.

Fifth Round
The fighters hugged and tapped gloves before the round. Jedrzejczyk hit Andrade with jab after jab, a familiar story from the rest of the fight. Andrade still kept trying, though, and she did some more damage to Jedrzejczyk’s face. Jedrzejczyk tagged her with a brutal elbow, and she continued to hit the challenger with jabs late in the round. There’s little doubt she’ll hold on to her title, but this one is going to the judges.

Result
Jedrzejczyk retained the strawweight title by unanimous decision, 50-45, 50-44, 50-45.

It wasn’t all bad news for Andrade, though. she proposed to her girlfriend after the bout, and she said yes.
