Players play, coaches coach. At least, that’s the way it’s supposed to go.
But that wasn’t the case recently in Warner, Okla., where two high school basketball coaches took a school bus to buy beer while the team was at an overnight camp at Connors State College, KXII-TV reports. A member of the school board confirmed to the station that the two Tishomingo High School coaches had been fired for the incident.
“I think it’s very disrespectful to our community, to the future of our kids to think it’s OK to do something like that,” a Tishomingo resident told KXII-TV.
An employee at the convenience store where the coaches purchased the beer reportedly notified Connors State officials, as the school is a dry campus. The coaches were immediately terminated once Tishomingo school administrators caught wind of the situation, causing the team to leave camp early.
“We were pretty upset because we paid money out of pocket to go to that camp, because we had to stay for three nights and we had to end up leaving on the second day,” THS basketball player Kyle Miller said, via KXII-TV.
THS students reportedly are getting tired of their school getting a bad reputation, as this is its second major scandal. Cheer coach Shelley Duncan, who’s also the superintendent’s wife, was arrested earlier in the year for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old.
