Red Sox Acquire Reliever Addison Reed From Mets For Three Prospects

UPDATE (3:05 p.m. ET): Addison Reed is a member of the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox made the trade official Monday afternoon, announcing they have acquired Reed from the New York Mets for minor league pitchers Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista and Steve Nogosek. The club placed Josh Rutledge on the 60-day disabled list to make room for Reed on the roster.

One day after the Red Sox bullpen imploded in a loss to the Kansas City Royals, Boston is acquiring right-handed reliever Addison Reed from the New York Mets, according to multiple reports. The Red Sox will send three minor leaguers — all relief pitchers — to the Mets to complete the deal, which reportedly is pending medical review.

None of those pitchers are considered ultra high-end prospects, but all three rank in the team’s top 30, according to MLB.com. Nogosek is the highest-ranked of three at No. 18 while Callahan and Bautista rank 23rd and 28th, respectively. (Coincidentally, all are 22 years old.)

Reed has made multiple big league stops, breaking into the league in 2011 with the Chicago White Sox. He tallied 101 saves over his first three full seasons from 2012 to 2014, a span which included a stint on the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2014 to 2015.

In August 20165, Arizona traded Reed to the Mets, where he became an integral part of the New York bullpen. Reed has appeared in 48 games this season, striking out 48 batters in 49 innings and recording 19 saves.

Reed will be a free agent at the end of the 2017 season.
