Strap in for a Ray Allen appearance on MTV.
Well, maybe not quite to that degree, but close enough.
The former NBA sharpshooter filed an emergency court motion in Orange County, Fla., on Tuesday, claiming he was “catfished” by a person he met online, according to ESPN. Allen filed the motion just a day after Bryant Coleman told the court that the 18-year NBA veteran had been stalking him.
Allen, who claims he’s the one who’s been stalked, reportedly requested that the case be thrown out.
Catfishing refers to the world of online dating, in which one (or occasionally both) individual pretends to be somebody they are not. The term gained traction after a 2010 documentary called “Catfish” spawned an MTV series of the same name.
As for Allen’s case, it’s rather complicated. Coleman claims Allen was harassing him, but Allen says that Coleman was making threats against his family and attempting to extort money from him.
In Allen’s motion, the details show a pretty in-depth attempt by Coleman to weasel his way into the 10-time NBA All-Star’s life.
“He posted about Ray’s wife, Ray’s children, Ray’s dog, Ray’s homes, Ray’s wife’s restaurant, and numerous other personal items,” Allen said in the motion, per ESPN. “Coleman not only posted about these things, he would actually post while physically located inside Ray’s wife’s restaurant in Orlando. And he would make sure they knew it, tagging Ray and his wife on those posts.”
It’s certainly a convoluted process that could take some time to sort out. But maybe by the end of this there finally will be someone on the Earth who loathes Allen more deeply than bitter Boston Celtics fans.
