The Boston Bruins won in dramatic fashion Tuesday night as rookie defenseman Charlie McAvoy scored the winning goal in overtime to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 at TD Garden.
Boston’s trade deadline pickups also played well, as Rick Nash scored a goal and saved a goal, and Tommy Wingels scored a goal and added an assist.
The B’s improve to 38-15-8 with the victory, while the Hurricanes drop to 27-25-11.

HOME DEBUT
Trade-deadline acquisitions Rick Nash and Tommy Wingels made their Boston debuts with the Bruins.
SAVED BY… NASH?
Yes, Rick Nash saved a goal early in the first period when he reached out with his stick and scooped a puck off the goal line, keeping the game scoreless.
HURRICANES STRIKE FIRST
Hurricanes forward Jamie McGinn opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 10:01 of the first period. He was all alone in front and got two rebound shots on Rask, with the second one finding the back of the net. It was his 11th goal of the season.
RICK NASH’S FIRST BRUINS GOAL
Nash got on the board as a Bruin at 11:41 of the first period. David Krejci kept the puck in the zone and found a wide open Nash, who beat Carolina goalie Scott Darling to even the score.
HURRICANES REGAIN LEAD
It didn’t take long for Carolina to go back ahead. Less than two minutes after Nash’s equalizer, the ‘Canes went ahead again when Teuvo Teravainen scored on the power play for his 16th goal of the season.
The Hurricanes went up 3-1 when Sebastian Aho scored with 56 remaining in the first period. It was Aho’s 22nd goal of the campaign.
ANOTHER NASH GOAL
Riley Nash got in on the fun by scoring a crucial goal with just three seconds left in the period. Newly acquired forward Tommy Wingels did a great job setting up the scoring chance, and Nash capitalized for his 11th goal of the season.
BRUINS TIE IT
Wingels became the second newly-acquired Bruin to find the back of the net when he tied the score at three just 5:34 into the second period.
ROOKIE WINNER
McAvoy’s overtime winner wars his seventh goal of the season, with Riley Nash earning the lone assist.
