The Golden State Warriors were disinvited from a visit to the White House when they trek to Washington D.C. later in the month, but they still will make pretty good use of their time.
The reigning NBA champions reportedly are opting to take a private tour of an undisclosed location, and joining them will be local kids from D.C., according to ESPN. The tour will include just players, coaches and the kids, and will not be open to media coverage.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr wanted to allow the players to decide what they found to be the best course of action prior to playing the Washington Wizards on Feb. 27.
“It’s their championship. They got disinvited to the White House, so it’s up to them what they wanted to do. So they made their plans,” Kerr said to ESPN. “I want the players to have a good day and to do something positive and to enjoy what they’re doing.”
This whole back and forth began because Warriors star Steph Curry made clear he would not visit the White House when Golden State is in town — a tradition customary for teams that win a championship — leading to President Donald Trump withdrawing their invitation in a tweet.
It was believed that all of the players were going to decide against going, per ESPN, even before Trump opted to not even let them come.
Whether or not the Warriors planned on going, it’s good to see they at least will use the day to try and make an impact on the D.C. community.
