How Dustin Pedroia Saved Xander Bogaerts From Rookie-Season Luggage Disaster

Dustin Pedroia long has been known for being a great teammate, and a tale from Xander Bogaerts’ rookie season only reinforces this notion.

Bogaerts, who made his MLB debut in mid-August of the 2013 season, unfortunately lost his luggage following his final Triple-A road trip, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith. It couldn’t have come at a worse time for Bogaerts, who was just a week away from being called up to The Show.

As part of the lost luggage, Bogaerts was left without any suits for his first road trip with the Red Sox, a voyage across the country to play the San Francisco Giants. And understanding the tough clothing predicament Bogaerts found himself in, Pedroia decided to step in and help the youngster.

“(Pedroia) told me once we get to L.A. he has some people there that does suits and stuff like that and he would hook me up, for sure. And then he did it,” Bogaerts told Smith.

Bogaerts hilariously noted that the new suits were a big upgrade from his original threads. The suits also are still a part of the Red Sox shortstop’s wardrobe, which was made possible thanks to Pedroia thinking ahead.

“And at the time he got them a little bigger for me, just a little bit so I’d probably grow into it,” Bogaerts said. “So now they fit me even better.”

Aside from being a great ballplayer, it looks like we now can add “fashion guru” to Pedroia’s list of skills.
