Michael Holley Leaving WEEI For Expanded Role At NBC Sports Boston

There is about to be a bit of a shakeup in the afternoon at WEEI.

Afternoon drive co-host Michael Holley announced Wednesday on Twitter and on his program “Dale and Holley with Rich Keefe” that he would be leaving the station.

But the longtime Boston media fixture doesn’t appear to be going far. Holley’s role on NBC Sports Boston — where he has worked on a part-time basis mostly as co-host of the program “Boston Sports Tonight” — is expanding.

WEEI confirmed the news with a statement on Twitter, noting that Holley was offered a multi-year extension to remain at the station.

There certainly is some interesting timing with the move, as NBCSB lost “Boston Sports Tonight” host Kayce Smith to Barstool Sports earlier in the day Tuesday.

“Dale and Holley” — which features Holley and Dale Arnold as the primary hosts — was revived in March 2014, and third host Rich Keefe joined the program in December 2016. Although the show often played second fiddle to 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger and Mazz” in the ratings for that time slot, they often garnered attention for their weekly interviews with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick during football season, and the Red Sox manager during baseball season.
