Should Rob Gronkowski’s Latest Tweet About WWE Worry Patriots Fans?

Rob Gronkowski hasn’t given any real indication he’ll retire this offseason. But man, has he dropped some hints.

The New England Patriots tight end has posted some cryptic tweets over the last few days about “destiny” and having “no limits.” His latest message, though, was a little more overt.

Gronk tweeted a link Tuesday morning to an article on his GronkNation.com site titled, “Mojo Rawley Reveals Why He Has Gronk To Thank For Getting Him Into The WWE.”

The caption: “It’s a team effort with Family and Friends! @MojoRawleyWWE”

Translation: Gronkowski definitely is retiring from the NFL to join his pal Mojo Rawley in the wrestling ring.

OK, not quite. The 28-year-old tight end has been a WWE fan for years, so him posting a wrestling tweet about one of his good friends — Rawley played college football at Maryland with two of Gronkowski’s brothers, Dan and Chris — is nothing out of the ordinary.

It’s impossible to ignore the circumstances, though. A report surfaced last week that the WWE would offer Gronk a contract if he retired from football, and the article Gronk linked to explains how Rawley (whose real name is Dean Muhtadi) made the switch from the NFL to WWE in 2009 after injury issues.

Oh, and the article also includes this tidbit: Gronkowski’s father, Gordy, was college roommates with former WWE wrestler Mike “I.R.S.” Rotunda and helped Muhtadi transition to wrestling by connecting him with Rotunda.

We could be making too much of Gronk’s non-football pursuits — it’s the offseason, after all — but we’d be a little nervous at the moment if we were Bill Belichick and the Patriots.
