It has been nearly a month since WEEI host Alex Reimer chose to call New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s daughter “an annoying little pissant,” and we now are hearing from him for the first time since his indefinite suspension began.
Reimer released a two and a half minute apology on WEEI.com Friday afternoon, accompanied by a brief written statement.
In the written apology, Reimer writes, “My remark about Tom Brady’s daughter was ridiculous and reprehensible. I am deserving of all the criticism that has come my way over the last four weeks.”
He continues: “No child should ever be mocked. It sickens me that I used my platform in such an odious manner.
“Working at WEEI has been a dream of mine ever since I started podcasting in my parents’ basement at 12 years old. This is not how I want to be remembered. I know I have a lot of work to do.”
Reimer apologizes to Brady and his family in both the audio and written statement and indicates that he sent a note to Brady through the Patriots public relations department.
The host’s bizarre diatribe took place in an exchange with another host, Mike Mutnansky, after the first episode of Tom Brady’s documentary “Tom vs. Time” aired on Facebook Watch. In response to a scene where Brady interacts with his daughter Vivian, Reimer said, “I thought the first scene was so staged. Where Brady’s, like, in the kitchen, his kid’s being an annoying little pissant …”
The comments happened on Thursday, Jan. 25 and the following Monday, Brady cut his weekly in-season interview with “Kirk and Callahan” short as a result. Brady indicated he would think about his future on the show, but said later on that he didn’t want Reimer fired.
