There’s a lot to like about Rafael Devers.
The youngster possesses many of the tools required to become one of the better third basemen in Major League Baseball one day, and at 21 years old he already is set to be the Boston Red Sox’s starter at the hot corner once Opening Day rolls around.
But for his manager Alex Cora, there’s just one problem: Devers won’t stop calling him “sir”.
Sure, it’s a pretty minor problem, but it is the one thing Cora could do without.
“He still calls me ‘sir,’ which I don’t like,” Cora joked to The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham. “But he’s 21. He’s a good kid.”
Despite Cora’s disdain with the sign of respect, it doesn’t sound like Devers has any intent on stopping.
“I have to do it that way. He’s my elder,” Devers said. “Even though he’s given me a lot of confidence and I feel comfortable around him, he still deserves my respect. I’ll keep calling him sir.”
Hey, if a title is the biggest problem you have with a young infielder, you’ve got it pretty good.
