Andrew Benintendi Reacts To Red Sox Fans’ Uproar Over His Haircut

Andrew Benintendi looked a bit different when he arrived to spring training back in February.

The Boston Red Sox outfielder bulked up over the offseason, putting on about 15 pounds in hopes of boosting his power at the plate for the 2018 season.

But a new physique wasn’t the only change to Benintendi’s appearance.

The 23-year-old took Red Sox nation by storm in January when he showed off his new haircut. Boston fans weren’t initially pleased with Benintendi’s new do, as the budding star’s flowing locks had become part of his persona upon arriving to the big leagues.

In an interview with MLB Network’s Al Leiter on Wednesday, Benintendi acknowledged Red Sox fans’ general disapproval of his haircut, but it doesn’t sound like he has any regrets.

“It’s been an unpopular decision, but I think it’s been going well so far,” Benintendi said.

It certainly has been going well for Benintendi this spring. He currently boasts a .409 average with three home runs and 10 RBI in 37 plate appearances. So who knows, maybe a new style of moss (shoutout Dennis Eckersley) has provided some good mojo for Benintendi.
