Brad Stevens is known for being a basketball genius, but the Boston Celtics coach evidently is well aware that you don’t always need to over-complicate things.
The Celtics, like most teams, have endured their highs and lows this season. Boston has gone through stretches where it simply could not buy a basket, and there have been other instances when the team’s defense wasn’t even close to being up to par.
That said, there also have been a number of games this season that saw the Celtics excel on both ends of the floor. The C’s ability to play a complete game has resulted in the team being one of the NBA’s best since the start of the season. And while you might think Stevens tirelessly crunches numbers to see if his squad is playing well on both offense and defense, his metric to find that answer actually is perfectly simple.
Brad Stevens is asked if there’s a “statistical sweet spot” that tells him the team is playing well on both ends of the floor.
“Winning,” he answers.— Boston Celtics (@celtics) March 7, 2018
Welp, tough to argue with that.
We have a feeling Stevens becomes much more analytical when the Celtics find themselves on the losing end.
