Help is on the way for the Boston Bruins in the form of Ryan Donato.
The club announced Sunday they signed the star prospect to a two-year, entry-level contract. Donato will join the team in Columbus on Monday for the Bruins’ game against the Blue Jackets.
Donato led Harvard in scoring during his junior season, netting 26 goals and 17 assists in 29 games. He was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. The 21-year-old also led Team USA in points during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. He tied for the Olympic lead with five goals and totaled six points in five games for the red, white and blue.
There’s a chance Donato could be in the lineup Monday against Columbus. The B’s are without Patrice Bergeron, Jake DeBrusk and David Backes, who left Saturday’s win over the Tampa Bay Lightning with a right leg laceration.
Donato was drafted with the 56th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.
