In the immediate aftermath of Super Bowl LII, Chris Hogan played the “what if?” game. Now, he just wants to move on to next season.
The New England Patriots wide receiver was asked this week during an appearance on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” to describe the emotions that followed his team’s season-ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I mean, it’s not a great feeling,” Hogan said. “Especially a game like that that comes down to the last play. You’re going back and forth, and I guess it all just kind of culminates at the end of that game, and you just think of everything you went through to get to that point.
“You just kind of start reflecting on the game, and you just try to think, ‘Could I have done this? Could I have done that?’ But at the end of the day, it was a really great game. Everybody played — I speak personally for my team — we played really well, and we did whatever we could.”
Hogan, who won a Super Bowl in his first season with the Patriots, was asked which outcome is more emotionally draining.
“As a competitor, you want to move on,” he said. “You want to reflect on it, you want to think about it, and then you kind of move on. So I’d say winning it is probably a little bit more exhausting. You learn from the loss. Obviously, you learn a lot from playing a great team like Philadelphia. But at the end of the day, now I’m looking on to next season and getting ready to try to get back to that moment.”
Hogan had his best game of the season in Super Bowl LII, catching six passes on eight targets for 128 yards and one touchdown in a losing effort.
Joining the wideout on the morning show was Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham, whose strip sack of Tom Brady helped seal Philadelphia’s victory. Both players were in New York City this week to participate in a “business combine” along with more than two dozen other current and former NFL players.
