Danny Shelton has done a lot of losing since coming into the NFL in 2015. That’s likely to stop now that he’s a member of the New England Patriots.

Shelton went just 4-44 as a member of the Cleveland Browns after being selected 12th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Browns traded Shelton, along with a 2018 fifth-round pick, to the Patriots for a 2019 third-round pick last weekend. Shelton detailed when he found out he had been traded to Patriots.com.

“I just got home from my honeymoon, and we took a long nap, and get the phone call from the GM letting me know,” Shelton said. “It was a bit of a shock but exciting at the same time.”

Unsurprisingly, Shelton is most excited to win with his new employers.

“Honestly just being here,” Shelton said. “I know that this is a place that is really just a winning culture, and I know that’s something I want to do. So I’m ready to be part of it and do my job.”

Shelton already sounds like a Patriot, saying he just wants to do his job multiple times during the interview.

Shelton projects as a starter along the Patriots’ defensive line, replacing free agent Alan Branch. Shelton figures to rotate in his role at defensive tackle with Malcom Brown, Lawrence Guy, Vincent Valentine, Adam Butler and any other players the Patriots bring in this offseason.
