INDIANAPOLIS — After a scary car accident that left Harvey Langi and his wife, Cassidy, dealing with serious injuries, the New England Patriots linebacker now is fine and expected to play in 2018, a source told NESN.com.
The accident occurred Oct. 13 in Foxboro, Mass., when Langi and his wife’s car was rear ended at a high speed. Langi and his wife, who also is fine after the accident, had to be extracted from their vehicle using the jaws of life.
Langi, who suffered back, neck and knee injuries in the crash, was placed on the Patriots’ non-football injury list Oct. 25. He played just one game after signing with the team and making their initial 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent.
The Patriots severely lacked depth at outside linebacker and defensive end during the 2017 season, forcing them to sign Eric Lee off the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad, James Harrison after he was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jonathan Freeny for just one game.
Langi’s availability for next season could lessen the Patriots’ need to bring in multiple pass rushers this offseason.
