Luis Severino recently was on the wrong end of Disney magic.
The New York Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves 8-3 Saturday in a split-squad game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex on the Disney World grounds in Orlando, Fla. And although Severino, the Yankees’ ace starting pitcher, hurled five solid innings in the win, he almost didn’t make it on time for the game, according to the New York Post’s Ken Davidoff.
But why?
“I guess he went to the wrong place (on Disney grounds),” Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild said, via Davidoff. “That’s not a good thing, but we won’t have that problem during the year.”
Severino reportedly arrived at Champion Stadium at roughly 11:45 a.m. ET on Saturday — which is pretty late for a game that started at 1:07 p.m. Furthermore, Severino even stayed in the area Friday night in an effort to ensure he was on time.
But he forgot to check for one important factor that Mickey maniacs know all-too well: weekend Disney traffic.
“It was supposed to be 15 minutes (from where he stayed),” Severino said, via Davidoff. “It was 30 minutes. I meant to check the traffic before.”
Whoops.
