While the New England Patriots once again made it to the Super Bowl this past season, there did appear to be some cracks in the armor along the way.
With reports of a power struggle within the organization surfacing in January, coupled with Tom Brady’s career drawing to a close and Bill Belichick’s decision to bench Malcolm Butler in the Patriots’ Super Bowl LII loss to the Eagles, there might be reason to believe New England’s dynasty is running on fumes.
You don’t have to tell Jason Whitlock twice.
The FOX Sports 1 commentator went on his show “Speak For Yourself” and unleashed a wild prediction for the 2018 NFL season, believing the Patriots’ dynasty will “crash” in 2018 and Brady and Belichick never will see another Super Bowl.
Keep your fire extinguisher close.
“The Belichick dynasty crashes in 2018,” Whitlock began. “Now the word crash is relative. The Patriots play in the AFC East against the Bills, Dolphins and Jets so there’s only so far they can fall in 2018. But they are going to fall. They’ll back into the playoffs at 9-7 and exit on Wild Card Weekend. And moving forward, you will never again see Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in the Super Bowl.”
Whitlock went on to cite offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ recent interview where he discussed his decision to spurn the Indianapolis Colts in favor returning to New England. Whitlock believes this shows that owner Robert Kraft and Belichick promised him he could be the head coach very soon, meaning, according to Whitlock, that the Patriots’ collapse is beginning.
He then went on to compare New England to Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War, saying the Patriots’ recent departures Nate Solder, Danny Amendola, Cameron Fleming, Dion Lewis and Butler “all caught helicopters out of Saigon.”
Whitlock finished his scorching rant by calling Belichick a “dictator” and saying he is “drunk on power,” and the Patriots now see him for what he is.
Wow.
While New England’s dynasty eventually will begin to come back to the pack, Brady and Belichick showed no signs of slowing down last season with Brady winning the NFL MVP at age 40 and the Patriots coming very close to sixth Super Bowl title.
