NASCAR Postpones Cup Race Because Of Snow For First Time Since 1993

For the first time in over 20 years, NASCAR is calling a snow day.

Sunday’s STP 500 has been postponed to Monday after snow blanketed Martinsville Speedway overnight. It’s the first time snow has postponed a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race since 1993 in Atlanta.

As you’ll see in the photo and video below, Martinsville looks awfully different than NASCAR fans are used to seeing it.

Way more snow than anticipated last night-Met with track/local authorities this morning-resources need to be dedicated to local community-roads-trees down, etc. We’ll put on a great day of @NASCAR Monday. #doubleheader Always a tough call but the right one in this case.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Snow began falling Saturday afternoon in Ridgeway, Va., according to ESPN. As a result, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race was halted after 23 laps. It will resume from that point at 11 a.m. ET on Monday, with the Cup race scheduled to follow at 2 p.m.
