Jim Kelly has another tough road ahead of him.

The Hall of Fame quarterback and Buffalo Bills legend announced the return of his oral cancer in a personal statement Thursday. Kelly said he was “deeply saddened” to learn his cancer had returned.

“As our family has faced many trials and triumphs throughout the years, you have blessed us with your prayers,” Kelly said, via Buffalo News. “We are asking for those prayers once again. The oral cancer we hoped would be gone forever has returned. Although I was shocked and deeply saddened to receive this news, I know that God is with me.

“I continuously talk about the four F’s: Faith, Family, Friends and Fans. With all of you by my side, we will fight and win this battle together. Staying ‘Kelly Tough’ and trusting God, will carry us through this difficult time.”

Here’s a statement from the Bills:

Kelly originally was diagnosed and treated for squamous cell carcinoma in 2013. The 58-year-old later learned the cancer had returned on March 14, but after subsequent chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Kelly was declared cancer-free a few months later.

Let’s hope he eventually fights off the disease, once and for all.
