NFL Rumors: Broncos Could Target This QB If Kirk Cousins Signs Elsewhere

It’s no secret: The Denver Broncos are in desperate need of quarterback help.

The Broncos have struggled to find a consistent starting QB since Peyton Manning retired, as Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler all have been mediocre at best in their respective showings on the field.

With this in mind, it came as no surprise that the Broncos heavily would be in the mix for Kirk Cousins this offseason. In fact, ESPN’s Adam Schefter identified Denver as one of the “final four” teams in the Cousins sweepstakes. However, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora believes it’s really a two-horse race for Cousins, which reportedly has prompted the Broncos into their backup plan.

Keenum certainly would be an interesting option for Denver. The veteran-signal caller undoubtedly had his best NFL season in 2017, leading the Minnesota Vikings to within one game of Super Bowl LII. And while there’s no denying what Keenum did on the field, he was aided by an incredible defense and Pro Bowl weapons. The Broncos boast star receivers in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, but their defense definitely isn’t as vaunted as it used to be.

It’s tough to imagine Keenum playing at the same level as Cousins, but at this point, it’s probably a risk the Broncos should take.
