NFL Rumors: Here’s What Seahawks Want From Cowboys In Earl Thomas Trade

The Seattle Seahawks’ defense has experienced some major changes this offseason, and the team might not be done parting ways with star players.

First, the Seahawks traded Michael Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles and not long after decided to release Richard Sherman, who quickly found a new home in San Francisco with the NFC West rival 49ers. Now, Earl Thomas could become the latest player to depart the Pacific Northwest.

Thomas’ future in Seattle has been murky dating back to last season. Following a Week 16 game in Dallas against the Cowboys, the Seahawks safety was captured chatting with Jason Garrett, telling the Cowboys coach that his team should “come get him” if it could. While the conversation didn’t seem very serious at first, Thomas heading to Dallas could become a reality.

According to 105.3 The Fan’s Mike Fisher, the Seahawks and Cowboys have discussed a trade for Thomas, with Seattle reportedly asking for a first-round draft pick from Dallas.

Thomas is one of the best safeties in the league and undoubtedly would make the Cowboys’ defense better, but a first-round pick is a lot to ask for a player on the last year of their contract. That said, Thomas’ aforementioned comments to Garrett lends one to believe the 28-year-old would be interested in staying in Dallas long term.

If the Cowboys truly are prioritizing the safety position this offseason, they could address their need without a blockbuster trade. Tyrann Mathieu officially was released by the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday, and the Honey Badger likely would make an immediate impact with America’s Team.
