A Grease Fire Broke Out At Tropicana Field Ahead Of Red Sox-Rays Opening Day

The folks at Tropicana Field are having an unfortunate start to the 2018 baseball season.

The Tampa Bay Rays will host Boston Red Sox on Thursday as part of a full Opening Day slate across Major League Baseball, but the first day didn’t go off without a hitch. According to multiple reporters and media on the scene, there was a small grease fire inside the stadium hours before first pitch.

Luckily, it doesn’t sound like anyone was hurt, and the Rays issued a statement saying the incident isn’t expected to impact the start of the game, which is set for 4 p.m. ET.

Team president Brian Auld said the fire occurred in the food section near Section 308, and while crews were mopping water from the sprinklers, the team doesn’t expect any further issues,

Not the hottest way to start the season, though.
