Richard Sherman Sends Message To Doubters After Release From Seahawks

Richard Sherman wants to make one thing clear: He still can play at a very high level.

Sherman is set to begin the next chapter of his NFL career after being released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday. While it’s tough to gauge what the level of interest for Sherman will be on the open market, some teams might be turned off by his age — he’ll turn 30 on March 30 — and the fact that he’s coming off a season derailed by a torn Achilles injury.

But if you ask Sherman, a simple look at the stats will give you a pretty good idea of what he can bring to the table. Not long after his release from the Seahawks, Sherman took to Twitter to highlight just how productive he’s been over the course of his seven-year career.

“Cause ppl talking to me like I’m slowin’ down,” Sherman writes. “Opinions over statistics, of course.” The four-time Pro Bowl selection also included a graphic displaying the defensive categories he’s led among all NFL players since entering the league in 2011.

The only expectations we can garner for Sherman’s free agency is the preferences he’s shared himself. The star CB told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that he’d like to play for a team with a great quarterback in an environment he will be comfortable in. New England certainly has an elite QB, and it’s a seemingly a no-brainer that the Patriots should pursue Sherman.
