Rob Gronkowski very well could play football this year. But his Hollywood aspirations apparently are no joke.

The New England Patriots tight end will have a role in “Boss Level,” an upcoming action film starring Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo, The Tracking Board’s Jeff Sneider reported Tuesday. Naomi Watts and Annabelle Wallis also are expected to star in the movie, which doesn’t have a release date yet.

Gronkowski’s role is being kept “under wraps,” according to Sneider, but the plot sure sounds interesting, if very Groundhog Day-esque: Grillo stars as a “retired special forces veteran who becomes trapped in a never-ending loop that results in his death every day.”

Perhaps Gronk will be responsible for a few of those deaths?

Aspiring acting career aside, Gronkowski’s chances of playing for the Patriots in 2018 still are alive. While the tight end has been tight-lipped about rumors he’ll retire, team owner Robert Kraft sounds pretty convinced the All-Pro will be back in New England this season.
