A few hours before the release of the sixth and final episode of “Tom vs. Time,” the star of the series sat down for an interview with New York Giants defensive end-turned-“Good Morning America” host Michael Strahan.
In his longest media sit-down since the New England Patriots’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII last month, Tom Brady explained to Strahan why he chose to make “Tom vs. Time,” which gave fans an in-depth look at the quarterback’s life away from Gillette Stadium.
“Well, I think it was a great experience for me, because I got to share a lot of things that a lot of fans never get a chance to see,” Brady said Monday morning. “I think there’s always a balance between private life and a public life, and I think I chose a very public profession. So with the amount of fans that have really enjoyed the show, when I reflect back on the decision to do it, I think, ‘What a great decision,’ because so many people have come up to me and said, ‘Thanks for doing that. It was really cool to see.’
“A lot of young athletes were inspired by the level of work it takes to get to a certain point in your career, and I think that’s been a great payoff for me. It was hard work. We spent a lot of time last offseason, and this season, a little bit of time, but it turned into, to me, a really great series.”
Brady, who lost to Strahan’s Giants twice in the Super Bowl, also reflected on the emotions that came along with his latest Super Bowl defeat.
“I think it’s a process you’ve got to deal with,” he said. “It’s so great to be in that game, but to not win that game is very tough. We’ve had a couple close losses to the Giants, unfortunately, and another one against the Eagles. I think you realize the sun comes up in the morning, and your life goes on, but those games live with you for the rest of your life. That’s part of being an athlete. That’s part of being in a competitive sport. And it’s tough to win that game.
“I’m proud of our efforts throughout the year. We overcame a lot of adversity, like you always need to do to in order to get to that game, but just came up a little bit short.”
Episode 6 of “Tom vs. Time” is set to premiere Monday on Facebook Watch.
