Tom Brady bid farewell to much more than just a teammate Tuesday evening.

Wide receiver Danny Amendola reportedly is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins once free agency opens Wednesday, marking the end of a five-year run with the New England Patriots.

Not only did Brady and Amendola make quite the connection on the field, especially in the playoffs, but they also connected well as friends (as evidenced in Brady’s documentary Tom vs. Time).

Brady responded to the news of Amendola’s departure Tuesday evening with a heartfelt post on Instagram that read: “Teammate. Friend. Brother. Leader. Champion. #80 #DannyPlayoff”.

In the moments when it mattered most, Amendola, much like Brady, always seemed to deliver. He was an essential part of the Patriots even getting to Super Bowl LII, with a stellar performance in the AFC Championship Game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But the reported offer from the Dolphins of a two-year, $12 million deal (with $8.25 million guaranteed) clearly was too good to pass up for the 32-year-old.

Julian Edelman, another close friend of Amendola’s, also bid adieu to the wideout after the news broke.
