Andrew Benintendi is back.
The Boston Red Sox’s young outfielder turned heads last season with his pure swing and ability to hit for some power despite his small build.
But Benintendi went and bulked up a bit in the offseason, and in the first inning Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals, the lefty clubbed Bud Norris’ inside fastball over the right-field wall in just his 10th at-bat of spring training.
Take a look:
We’re certain the Red Sox are hoping there’s plenty more of that at Fenway Park this season.
Although Boston as a team struggled to put the ball in the seats last season, Benintendi was fourth on the squad with 20 dingers. Had his rookie campaign not coincided with New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge’s, he likely would have won the American League Rookie of the Year award.
The Red Sox beat the Cardinals 9-6.
