David Ortiz has been out of baseball for more than a year now.

While the Boston Red Sox legend won’t be making a comeback at age 42, he did admit that there are a few things he misses about playing on the diamond.

Ortiz discussed this and his first meeting with new Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez on ESPN”s “SportsCenter.” His answer, of course, was classic Big Papi.

“Two things,” Ortiz said. “Hanging out with the boys. You know, I try to stay in touch with my ex-teammates. I went down to camp for a few days now in the spring and I had a blast. Pretty much all my boys just trying to holler at me, and exchange words with them. And me trying to share my experience with them.

“Once I went down there, J.D. already signed — J.D. Martinez already signed with the team. So I said, everybody knows he’s going to be DHing a lot, so he wanted to share ideas. He wanted to know what my mindset was while I was DHing. What he needed to get prepared and how he needed to get prepared to be able to play a good role as a DH. And that was something that I really enjoyed — talking to the guys down there.

“That’s the one thing that I miss the most. And, of course, hitting bombs.”

There it is.

Red Sox Nation misses the bombs too, Big Papi.
