It’s admittedly kind of weird to continuously “report” on Zdeno Chara’s (or any athlete’s) Instagram postings. But the Boston Bruins captain is leaving us no choice.
Chara missed Thursday night’s game against the Florida Panthers with an upper body injury, and he’ll also miss the club’s Saturday night tilt with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The good news, however, is Chara’s injury apparently gave him the chance to catch up with an old friend: Bobby Orr.
Chara on Friday posted a photo on Instagram, apparently from Thursday night’s game, of him standing with Orr in the press level of the Panthers’ arena. Along with the photo, Chara had this great caption:
“It hurts me not to be on the ice with my teammates. I’ve come to learn that injuries are here to teach us something and allow us to grow. To make us stronger and better, to appreciate our health. And in times like this it is a wonderful solace to meet THIS man. He doesn’t need an introduction: he is a legend, an idol and hero. What strikes me most about Mr. Bobby Orr is that people refer to him as a gentleman – always polite, kind, humble and prepared to help when he can. Those are the true qualities of a man. Every time I walk, drive or ride my bike by his famous statue at (TD Garden) I say in silence: ‘Good afternoon Mr. Orr, great respect and honor to you.'”
Delightful.
It’s also fitting that Chara one day likely will have his number hanging in the Garden rafters alongside Orr and the rest of the Bruins’ legends.
