It sure sounds like Charlie McAvoy is close to returning to game action.

The Bruins defenseman has missed Boston’s last 15 games with a knee injury, but he’s reportedly made great strides in his recovery after going down March 3.

While McAvoy didn’t suit up for the Bruins’ Sunday matinee tilt against the Flyers despite traveling with the team to Philadelphia, head coach Bruce Cassidy shared an encouraging injury update before the Eastern Conference matchup.

If McAvoy manages to return for Tuesday’s game in Tampa Bay against the Lightning, it would come at a great time for both the 20-year-old and the Bruins. It would allow McAvoy to get a few more games under his belt for the playoffs and bolster Boston’s blueline, especially in wake of Brandon Carlo’s reported broken left fibula.
