Brock Lesnar’s wrestling match against Roman Reigns this Sunday at WrestleMania 34 could be his last with WWE — at least for a little while.
UFC president Dana White confirmed Wednesday night on “UFC Tonight” that Lesnar will return to the octagon, just as many have suspected.
“Yeah, Brock Lesnar’s coming back (to UFC),” White said. “I don’t know when, but yes he is.”
Lesnar currently holds the WWE Universal title, which will be on the line against Reigns, but his contract with the company is about to expire, evidently paving the way for a full-time return to UFC.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because many believed Lesnar would return to UFC when his previous WWE contract expired in 2015. He ultimately re-signed with WWE, though, and since has remained one of the most popular superstars in sports entertainment.
Lesnar, who turns 41 in July, won the UFC heavyweight championship from Randy Couture at UFC 91 in November 2008. He successfully defended it twice before dropping back-to-back fights to Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem at UFC 121 and UFC 141, respectively, and returning to WWE.
Lesnar returned to UFC for a one-off fight at UFC 200 in July 2016. He defeated Mark Hunt, but the result later was overturned to a no-contest and Lesnar was suspended for one year for failing a pair of drug tests.
Lesnar announced his retirement in February 2017, thus freezing his suspension, meaning his eventual return to UFC might not be the smoothest process.
